April's ArtZine Features: We meet Ohio native Harvey Pekar, cartoonist extraordinaire who carefully and hilariously documents his experiences and observations through his autobiographical comics. His work was the basis for the acclaimed 2003 film "American Splendor." Pekar uses the medium of comics to tell engaging stories that appeal to adults. In this rare interview, we meet up with him at the Cartoon Research Library adjacent to the Wexner Center for the Arts.
Internationally renowned choreographer and dancer Bebe Miller talks about her career and the creative process. She is a sought after teacher, mentor and an award winning artist who has made Columbus her home since 2000. The Ohio Art’s Council has chosen Ms. Miller as an outstanding individual artist for the 2007 Governor’s Award for the Arts in Ohio.
Husband and wife team, choreographer Susan Hadley and composer Bradley Sowash, have been working with BalletMet on a new production premiering in March - Whodunit? – a mystery wrapped up in a ballet. Learn how their partnership is one full of life and surprises.
Each year Columbus Children’s Theatre hosts The Child Writing Project to encourage creative writing in elementary schools and to demonstrate how stories can come alive through live theatre. This year's project, entitled "A Funny Thing Happened…," inspired over 1000 entries from elementary schools all over Ohio. Eighteen winners were chosen this year and the CCT touring company will perform these stories-turned-into-plays to over 40,000 elementary school children throughout Ohio. We take a look at the process and talk with these aspiring writers.
And the Ohio Historical Society has created a new space of their own for their large collection of archaeological artifacts. We talk to the experts about the art and their function in the ancient world. |
