Operating Expenses FY 2003-2004


$12,961,490

Underwriting - 2%- expenses associated with the solicitation of funds for spot underwriting of local and national programs aired by the wosu stations.

Fundraising-6%- includes expenses incurred for member solicitation, member services, pledge activities, planned giving, endowment, capital campaign, auction, and special events.

Programming and Production -36%- station broadcast services are available 24 hours, 365 days a year.  Expenses associated with programming the many hours of operation are reflected in this category, along with expenses incurred to produce national and local programs.

Broadcasting-28%- transmission cost, equipment maintenance, production support, and utilities are shown here.

Program Information -6%- all public relations, advertisement, and marketing expenses are included in this category.

Management and General -17%- includes day-to-day operational costs for the computer center, business office, human resources, and administration.

Depreciation -5%- equipment depreciation cost

John Rittmeyer with the Classics

Weekdays from 3 pm until 7 pm, WOSU’s John Rittmeyer plays classics on WOSU 89.7, Classically Columbus. The Cleveland native says, “I’ve been getting paid to listen to classical music since 1987, and the experience of music has opened a whole new world of artistic expression to me.” more...

Beethoven Live from Cologne

Sir Gilbert Levine conducts a performance of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, recorded in Cologne Cathedral during the 2005 World Youth Day celebrations in Germany. This was the first time that Missa Solemnis, Beethoven’s monumental spiritual masterpiece, had ever been performed in Cologne Cathedral, Germany’s most famous church and home cathedral of Beethoven, who was a native of Bonn, just down the river Rhine from Cologne. The performance features soloists Bozena Harasimowicz, Monica Groop, Jerry Hadley, and Franz-Josef Selig, with the London Philharmonic Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. more...
